Klingspor’s CMT, SMT and TITAN families show how abrasive selection can be organised around changeover time, operating intensity and usable life.
FABTECH 2026 takes place in Las Vegas on October 21–23. Klingspor Abrasives is listed at booth N10034, with bonded abrasives, flap discs and resin fibre discs among its planned exhibits.
Three flap disc families, three selection questions
CMT: changeover convenience. The quick-change format addresses users who need convenient disc changes as part of their production workflow. Always stop and isolate the tool as required by its instructions before changing a disc.
SMT: operating intensity. The SPECIAL “9”, SUPRA “6” and EXTRA “3” classes distinguish demanding, daily-use and general steel applications. Zirconia alumina and ceramic grain options, different geometries and specialist finishing constructions add further choices.
TITAN: usable disc life. A trimmable backing exposes abrasive that might otherwise remain unused. The range includes a threaded arbor for spin-on mounting and a plastic backing designed to support cooler operation. Trimming and mounting must follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
Resin fibre disc performance also depends on the backing pad. Ribbed and cooling-channel designs change the support and airflow beneath the disc; supplier performance percentages should be treated as product-specific claims, rather than universal improvements.
The retail channel move
The exhibition announcement also describes the relaunch of a welding dealer retail programme. Industrial abrasives are being presented as a coordinated retail range, supported by direct supply and merchandising. The announcement does not establish that this is Klingspor’s first retail activity in its history.

Two selection principles travel well beyond one supplier’s catalogue. Start with the intensity and purpose of the operation, then choose the abrasive and grit. Treat disc changing and usable abrasive life as separate cost questions: a low unit price does not automatically mean a low cost per finished part.
