Prepare metallographic specimens

MT groups abrasive papers for metallographic specimen grinding. Select around specimen material, incoming surface and the subsequent polishing stage. The aim is a controlled preparation sequence that can be inspected, rather than merely a visually smooth surface.

Confirm specimen and equipment requirements

Compare MS40 and MS88 specifications on their product pages. Provide specimen dimensions, mounting, preparation equipment, attachment, current sequence and the defects that remain after preparation. Confirm the grade sequence using representative specimens rather than treating two grit numbers as automatically interchangeable.

Separate specimen preparation from general sanding

VD and ST serve broader sanding applications. A similar diameter or grit does not establish suitability for a metallographic method. Record surface defects and the inspection result after each stage when agreeing a preparation route.

Grit designation and standards

Grit numbers must be read with their grading system. FEPA uses P designations for coated-abrasive grains; a plain number or a similar ANSI/JIS designation is not sufficient evidence of equivalence. The factory catalogue does not confirm a grading standard for every model. Ask GUOWIN to confirm the applicable designation before substituting products. FEPA
