When sponge abrasives fit

Sponge abrasives conform to curves, rounded edges and recessed areas during controlled hand sanding. They are useful when contact with the workpiece matters more than rapid stock removal. Start from the material, existing defect and target surface, then select the grit and form. Test the chosen sequence on a representative workpiece before production.

Choose the form for the task

For manual access to contours and narrow areas, compare the regular block GN-SA-BK70 with the shaped block GN-SA-BK80. The double-sided GN-SA-DS120 provides another manual format. For a machine using hook-and-loop attachment, check GN-SA-HS70A or GN-SA-HS70B against the backing pad and required grit. Each product page gives its own documented grit range.

When to choose another construction

For heavy weld removal or high stock removal, start with the abrasive disc family rather than a sponge block. For a flat reference surface, use a rigid backing that does not follow the workpiece contours. For surface conditioning instead of defined-grit cutting, compare the non-woven series. This guidance describes selection logic; removal rate, finish and service life still require application testing.

Grit designation and standards

Grit numbers must be read with their grading system. FEPA uses P designations for coated-abrasive grains; a plain number or a similar ANSI/JIS designation is not sufficient evidence of equivalence. The factory catalogue does not confirm a grading standard for every model. Ask GUOWIN to confirm the applicable designation before substituting products. FEPA
